World Peace Day will be celebrated in town tomorrow with ‘Wrexham’s Big Lunch’ set to mark the occasion.

The event, which will take place on Llwyn Isaf between 10am and 6pm, has been organised by Incredible Edible Wrexham and CLPW – with the theme for the event being ‘Together for Peace’.

Incredible Edible create gardening spaces on unused patches of ground to grow herbs and vegetables. Anyone can get involved and volunteer, and the food grown is free for all. CLPW is a group for Portuguese descendants and speakers and works towards cultural understanding and against racism.

The Big Lunch started in 2009 with a very simple idea: One day a year when, for a few glorious hours, shyness stops, gloom lifts and the UK comes together in the street to meet, greet, share, swap, sing, play and laugh for no reason other than that we all need to.

It’s an annual get together across the UK for friends and neighbours, and to make new friends.

In 2016, 7.3 million people took to their streets, gardens and neighbourhoods to join in for a few hours of community, friendship and fun at over 90,000 events.

Tomorrow’s event on Llwyn Isaf is free to attend and child friendly. There will be lots of stalls and free workshops including belly dancing, comic book making, face painting and art, along with some great music. There will also be a sharing table for excess harvest and surplus food if you have some to bring or swap.

So bring your family and friends, bring some food to share, bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the day!
