Wrexham Police FC are set to face local community side Bellevue FC in their next fundraising fixture.

The match, on Sunday 23 July, will be held in memory of retired officer PC 499 John Richard “Warwick” Burgess, following his recent death.

Well respected by colleagues and the Wrexham community, family and friends gathered for his funeral at Pentrebychan Crematorium in Rhostyllen last week.

A collection held at the funeral raised £800 for Bellevue FC, in support of two new junior teams and its newly-formed women’s team.

All additional funds raised by the friendly match will also be donated to the club.

Organiser, Sgt Dave Smith said: “We feel this game is a great opportunity for us as officers to pay our respects to PC Burgess and our thoughts remain with his family at this difficult time.

“Bellevue is a club we know well. We played them in our very first friendly match and we respect all of the good work they’ve done within the community to date.

“We’d like to help them develop, and any money we raise will fund new kit and equipment, supporting their growth throughout next season and beyond.

“As a club, we believe that football should be for everyone, so it’s great to see Bellevue create pathways for local women and children interested in playing regularly.”

Kicking off at 11am, the match will be played at Court Road, Wrexham.
