Wrexham Council has ‘no cladding systems similar to Grenfell’
Councillors have been told that exterior cladding used by Wrexham Council are fire safety compliant.
Wrexham Council say that concerns have been raised by tenants, residents, Councillors and Officers about the type of cladding used by the Council on its non-traditional housing stock as part of the Wales Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) programme of improvements.
We here at Wrexham.com noted publicly that we had observed cladding being used in Hightown on housing upgrades.
The information circulated yesterday to Councillors is offering ‘reassurance’ that “…the systems that have been specified and are being installed in the Council’s housing stock are fire safety compliant and that the Council has no exterior cladding systems in use similar to that fixed to the façade of the Grenfell Tower building in London.”
On June 16th, two days after the horrific fire in London, Wrexham Council stated cladding systems in place complied to various standards and were different from those used at Grenfell.
Wrexham Council have since met with representatives from two cladding providers (one meeting was on July 11th), Structherm and Wetherby, to discuss the issues including discussing their products/solution in terms of fire resistance, what tests have been carried out, who carried out the tests.
Wrexham Council say: “Both companies have provided written assurances on their products, which confirm and answer these questions.
“The Structherm solution has been subjected to a full scale BS 8414 – 1 fire test, and the Wetherby solution has been fully tested for fire resistance.”
