Wrexham business owner raises hundreds for charity after “30 miles within 30 days” swimming challenge
A local business owner has raised hundreds of pounds for charity after completing a “30 miles within 30 days” swimming challenge.
Laura Evison, from Regent House of Flowers on Yorke Street, decided to set herself the swimming challenge to celebrate 30 years working at the company and at the same time raise funds for Hope House Hospice.
The charity provides support to children and their families with palliative and specialist nursing care care, counselling and bereavement services across North and Mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.
As part of the challenge Laura aimed to swim 1,930 lengths of the pool at Waterworld – something she completed within 12 days.
Over that period Laura visited the leisure centre each morning before work with the aim to swim at least 150 lengths a day.
Speaking to Wrexham.com, Laura said: “The hardest part of the challenge was being able to get the time in the pool.
“I usually go every morning at 7am so my staff, Natalie and Ron were great, so I could get at least 1-2 hours off each day.
“I love swimming as it helps with my tinnitus and keeps me relaxed and focused.
“The hardest part was concentrating to count to five as I had bands on my wrist to keep count of lengths and tried to do at least 150 a day.
“I had great support from Hope House, friends, local businesses and customers that kept me going on my low days.”
