Wrexham-based organisation helping to bring communities together
A Wrexham-based organisation is celebrating its dynamic work bringing together communities in Wrexham through a range of exciting projects.
Communidade Da Lingua Portuguesa Wrexham (CLPW) is a community interest company which promotes educational, social, and cultural integration of Portuguese-speaking diaspora in Wrexham and North Wales.
So far this year the organisation has backed City of Culture bid, launched a Portuguese language startup programme at Wrexham’s Enterprise Hub, set up a Bom Dia arts group at Ty Pawb and in preparation or St David’s Day, the Bom Dia group created daffodils and carnations
Recently CLPW has been working in partnership with the Bevan Foundation and grassroots organisations around Wales including TCC (Trefnu Cymunedol Cymru/Together Creating Communities), on a new project embedding the voices of people who have migrated into policy development in Wales.
Participants on the project have shared their skills and experiences to respond to Welsh Government policy consultations on a range of topics such as the Migrant Inclusion framework and Violence Against Women and Girls Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence.
CLPW and partner organisations were delighted to see the recommendations from the Senedd’s Equalities and Social Justice Committee report on childcare reflect their responses to the Childcare & Parental Employment Inquiry.
Co-director of CLPW Iolanda Banu Viegas said: “People who’ve migrated can face many barriers, and we are passionate about building relationships across our communities, and especially sharing the skills, stories and experiences of the Portuguese speaking communities in Wrexham. It’s vital that all voices are included in any policy consultation, and we’re proud to have helped shaped policy in Wales” .
The Bevan Foundation is Wales’s most influential think tank, and was founded in 2001 to strengthen public policy after devolution.
They develop lasting solutions to poverty and inequality. More information about the Bevan Foundation’s project to ensure people with lived experience of migration have a policy voice, which is funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation , is available here. Twitter/Facebook: BevanFoundation.
