Wrexham’s games in the National League are going ahead after an announcement by the league.

There was much speculation that Wrexham’s league could see a similar postponement that has seen many other fixtures stopped due to coronavirus concerns.

The National League have said, “Following a Board meeting held today, the National League has decided to allow matches in its three divisions to proceed as planned this weekend. The National League will keep the operation of its competition under constant and diligent review, and will remain in compliance with government advice at all times.

“The Football Association has offered its guidance, and made it clear the decision to continue or to suspend a competition is a matter for each league to make.”

Wrexham are now due to travel to Barrow tomorrow, and welcome Boreham Wood to the Racecourse on the 21st.

The Football Association of Wales has today has taken the decision to suspend domestic football at all levels in Wales with immediate effect until 4 April amid the spread of the coronavirus.

A statement from the FAW said: “The intention at this time will be to resume the football schedule depending on the medical advice and conditions from the relevant authorities at that time.

“The FAW is fully aware of the impact this will have on the domestic game but the health and safety of all fans, players, volunteers and stakeholders are of paramount importance. ”

The Guinness Six Nations clash of Wales v Scotland at Principality Stadium in Cardiff tomorrow has also been postponed. In a statement the WRU said, “The Welsh Rugby Union has maintained an open dialogue with, and continued to seek advice and direction from, the Welsh Government and other stakeholders, including the Six Nations, on this fast-moving issue.

“Whilst medical advice remains consistent, we have decided that it is in the best interests of supporters, players and staff to fall in line with recent measures taken across the UK and global sports industries.”

Overnight Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and a Chelsea player both tested positive for COVID-19 prompting an emergency meeting with Premier League officials this morning, with the entire Everton squad also being isolated.

Following the meeting, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on 4 April, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time. The EFL, FA Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship are also postponed, announced in a joint statement.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19.

“In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority.”

“Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League’s aim to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so.”

Internationally The Masters has been postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak, along with Formula 1 and many other sporting events.
