A mix of nice weekend weather and Chester races created the entirely predictable A483 nightmare due to the final weekend of the Posthouse roundabout roadworks.

UPDATE 3pm: North Wales Police have said: “Earlier traffic problems on the A483 Posthouse roundabout have now been alleviated. The road works remain as do officers assisting the flow.”

Reports of passengers abandoning cars and walking towards Chester, others seeing cars driving on the grass verges and dangerous u-turns taking place on slip roads paint a picture of the traffic problems throughout today.

Cheshire Police updated motorists several hours after the problems started saying: “Heavy congestion reported around the area of the A483 Posthouse Roundabout in Chester – please avoid the area if possible”

Several readers got in touch to ask why lanes were closed as it appeared no actual work was taking place, with a couple under the incorrect impression the works would have been finished already this weekend. As Wrexham.com readers are aware, works are planning to finish 5am Monday.

Clare said: “Been stuck on the A483 for over two hours and still not even close to the roundabout! Had a train to catch at 11”, others reported queuing for three hours.

Others who planned ahead and opted for public transport to avoid the queues were in for trouble two, with Carl expressing the view: “Piss poor from Arriva trains, two carriages on on race day with post house roundabout closed #StuckInStation”, echoed by Lee who called Arriva ‘useless’: “Two carriages on chester race day From Wrexham to Chester? Well planned guys, well planned!”.

Arriva replied: “Unfortunately, we haven’t got enough trains to provide extra capacity on all services but we do where we can. We’ve provided 2 additional train services from Wrexham to Chester today, for example”.

One person explained they had planned ahead to use the train to avoid the Posthouse queues to make sure they arrived at a job interview early, however due to the transport issues they missed it.

Assembly Member Aled Roberts got caught up in the queue, and blamed the English when someone challenged him to act, saying: “All we can do is complain about the impact and press for progress as English scheme”

The following are a selection of tweeted pictures to Wrexham.com of the view of the largest car park in North Wales:
