Plans to transform high street office space into a wine bar have been given the go ahead.

Over summer Wrexham.com reported that an application had been lodged with Wrexham Council proposing that the ground floor of 36 High Street is converted into the new bar / wine bar.

As part of the plans some external and internal alternations are proposed, including a new fascia sign, painting and the creation of a new bar in the front office area.

A decision to approve the plans were granted by Wrexham Council’s head of environment and planning via a delegated decision.

Details provided within the application’s heritage, design and access statement, say: “The ground floor of 36 High Street is currently occupied by Arthur J Gallagher and is used as offices for insurance broker purpose. The original building encompasses No’s 36 and 37 High Street and is Grade II Listed.

“This is an 18th century house in use as a ship, with an earlier rear wing. The building contains traces of earlier timber framing and was extensively renovated in 1980. The listing date of the building was 16 June 1980.

“The building is within the Wrexham town centre and forms part of an important group of buildings on the south side of the High Street.”
