Monday’s meeting of Wrexham Council’s Planning Committee will be broadcast live as the council continues to pilot webcasting.

In addition to the webcast there will be an opportunity to chat live about the meeting by clicking on the “live chat” button at the top of the webcast screen.

Cllr Mark Pritchard, Leader of the Council, is urging as many people as possible to log on to the webcast and see democracy in action: “We have been given the opportunity with funding from the Welsh Government to trial webcasting. The funding, however, was for 12 months only, in December we will be asked whether or not we wish to fund webcasting ourselves.

“It is therefore very important that before any decision is taken on this matter residents, businesses and organisations in the area show us their support by logging on and following us live and interacting via the live chat.”

The decision to broadcast meetings was made in September 2013, however the actual webcasting of meetings didn’t actually begin since July 2014. Only Planning Meetings, Executive Board Meetings and Full Council meetings have been webcast, with five meetings being broadcast since July.

The Planning Meeting will be webcast live from the Guildhall at 6.30 pm. During Monday’s Planning Meeting the final decision on Wrexham’s Super Prision will go before the committee; proposals to demolish the former TE Roberts store on King Street will also be discussed.

The Council’s Executive Board will also be webcast on 7th October at 2.00 pm and “live chat” will again be available. Tuesday’s Executive Board meeting will be the first since a new Independent Party was formed, with Cllr Pritchard taking over Councillor Neil Rogers as Lead Member.

As usual we will be live tweeting the meetings and are always interested to know your thoughts on the live webcasts.
