A warning has been issued to underage drinkers who try to access pubs and clubs in Wrexham using someone else’s ID.

Door staff at venues in the night time economy will retain false or borrowed identification as well as turn you away.

In the last year alone Wrexham Trading Standards have processed 70 I.D. documents worth £2080.00.

Between 1 and 10 January Trading Standards have processed 11 ID documents worth a total of £280 in renewal costs to the correct owners.

The documents are then sent back to the issuing agencies informing them that they have been used fraudulently, with the legitimate owners of the ID needing to spend money or re-applying as well as having to answer some difficult questions.

Roger Mapleson, Trading Standards and Licensing Lead, said: “We have been running the successful retention scheme since 2018.

“Our message from this is loud and clear, if you are discovered trying to get in to a licensed premises using I.D that belongs to someone else or is fake, it will be retained and you will be turned away.

“Using a false identity document is a serious matter, not to mention the potential costs and inconvenience to both parties if caught. Just don’t do it.”
