Trolleys, Roadwork Signs & Children’s Toys Found in Wrexham Lake
A team of volunteers have helped drain a Wrexham Lake as part of its annual clean up.
Each year the Park Rangers drain the lake at Stryt Las Park in Johnstown, Wrexham and carry out a litter pick.
The lake is home to a good number of protected Great Crested Newts as well as a variety of ducks, geese, gulls and invertebrates. Each winter the lake is cleared when the newts are hibernating on land so as not to disturb them or the birds in the summer months when it is breeding season.
Amongst the litter collected are the usual suspects of traffic cones, trolleys, road work signs, children’s toys and a variety of glass bottles, cans, and food packaging.
Cllr David A Bithell Lead Member Environment and Transport said:”I would like to thank all the volunteers who supported the clean up which requires to be carried each year.
“It’s disappointing that people dump all sorts of litter and debris into the pond.
“I hope that people will respect our parks which in turn will help protect our wildlife.”
