Thai Restaurant plans for Bridge Street building

A disused building just outside of Wrexham town centre could soon be converted into a restaurant.

Plans submitted to Wrexham Council seek permission to turn 26-30 Burton Buildings, on Bridge Street, from a retail premises and into an eatery.

Previously the building housed a dog groomers business, however the applicants say that if granted the empty shop will be converted into a Thai restaurant.

The building, which was built in 1896 and is Grade II listed, is described as being in a “poor state of repair which still requires some work”.

If the plans are approved work will be undertaken to the first-floor shop is create an outlet to the rear of the building for
a cooking extraction unit.

Plans show a restaurant area will be located on the first floor and cellar, along with a potential bar area.

The cellar, which will be accessed down a spiral staircase, will also include toilet facilities.

Minimal work would be carried out to the exterior other than repairing damage and replacing rotten woodwork.

The applicants say that “the objective is to restore the building to its former glory, using its original materials and having a positive impact on the area which has been left in disarray.”

If the plans are given the go ahead the new Thai restaurant would create two full-time and two-part jobs.

Details submitted for consideration to the council state that the restaurant would open between 6pm and 10:30pm Monday-Friday. Opening hours on a Saturday would be 6pm – 11pm and 6pm – 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The applicants say: “It is believed that the conversion to a restaurant will have many benefits to the building and city alike.

“By changing the premises to a restaurant will also bring the cellar into use which has its own history in itself and will be utilised by renovating the brickwork and preserving the mural on the wall.

“The property will be renovated and preserved to high standard with minimal effect to the structure.”

The application will be considered for approval by Wrexham Council at a later date.
