It was sunshine, picnics and popcorn this weekend, will film lovers gathering to watch movies classics on the big screen at Wrexham’s drive-in cinema.

Six iconic films were shown over the two day event, which was held at the Bangor on Dee Racecourse over the weekend. Organised in collaboration with, the event followed on from the success of Wrexham’s inaugural drive in cinema event on Valentine’s Day.

This time round six films were shown across the two day period, with Toy Story, Grease and Top Gun drawing in the crowds on Saturday.

Sunday kicked off with family classic, Shrek, followed by Star Wars: The Force Awakes and Dirty Dancing.

Due to popular demand and the success of the two events, a Halloween drive in cinema has already been booked in for the end of October.

Destination Manager at Wrexham Council, Joe Bickerton said: “We were really pleased once again to stage the drive-in movies at Bangor on Dee following the positive reaction to the first event back in February.

“Over the course of the weekend, the films attracted a lot of families and couples who were both local and who had travelled from other parts of the UK to experience their favourite films in such a unique setting.

“The in-car selfies shared on social media over the weekend showed just how much visitors enjoyed the experience – so we’ve already booked in our next outdoor cinema for Sunday 29th October which will have a halloween matinee followed by a scare-fest night for adults only.”

He added: “It’s important that we keep looking for new and interesting events like these drive-in cinemas, so that we can keep our events programme competitive in order to attract new visitors into the area each year.”
