Social distancing signage installed to help keep those visiting the town centre safe has been damaged by a “group of youths”.

NWP Wrexham Town tweeted the above image of the yellow signage on Queens Square earlier this evening.

The signs were placed around the town centre by Wrexham Council two weeks ago as non-essential retail was given the go ahead to reopen.

They encourage people to keep 2m apart from others when walking around the town.

NWP Wrexham Town say: “We are very disappointed to report that signage throughout the town centre that is there to protect you and your loved ones has this evening been damaged by a group of youths.”

Officers added that CCTV has captured the incident and those “involved will be located.”

Cllr David A Bithell Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Environment said he was disappointed social distancing signage was damaged, and that the council will be liaising with its CCTV team to try and identify those responsible.

He added: “These signs have been purchased to help protect the public and to demonstrate the safety measures we have put into place.

“This mindless act shows the challenges the council the public, police, and traders face – absolutely shocking.”
