Once again the search is on for Wrexham’s best banger.

The annual Wrexham Championship Sausage Competition looks set to sizzle this year with local butchers gearing up to do battle.

The competition is being organised by Wrexham Council as part of the town’s St David’s Day celebrations, and is open to butchers across the county borough.

As well as an overall champion, there will be winners in two separate sub-categories for traditional pork sausages and speciality sausages, all of which must be made on the entrants’ premises.

Three times winner, Mark Lewis of Lewis’ Farm Shop, will be joining the professional judge, Denis Eliot, this year in deciding who deserves the “best banger” in Wrexham title.

The results will be announced at 1.30pm on Saturday, 3 March during the St David’s Market being held on Queen’s Square between 10am and 4pm.

Kay Rickard, one of the event organisers, said: “We are really looking forward to the Wrexham Champion Sausage Competition returning to the St David’s Market, where it started off. There are lots of fantastic sausages produced in Wrexham and visitors to the market will be able to sample some of them after the results have been announced.

“Also at the market you will find a range of local food and crafts, refreshments, children’s activities, face painting and cookery demonstrations so do come and visit us.”
