‘Rucksacks For Refugees’ Scheme Launched in Wrexham
A local scheme aiming to collect rucksacks full of ‘goodies and essentials’ for Syrian refugees has been launched in Wrexham.
Known as ‘Rucksacks for Refugees’, the new initiative encourages members of the public to fill as many small rucksacks as they can with items, such as gloves, hats, toys and toiletries for children in Syrian Refugee Camps.
The idea behind the scheme comes as result of a campaign launched by eight year old Regan McNeill, who creating small rucksacks for children in countries who have been forced from their homes due to the ongoing conflict in Syria.
The scheme quickly gained attention nationwide, inspiring Kelly Ashbury from Wrexham to organise a similar rucksack initiative for the area.
‘Rucksacks for Refugees’ launched in Wrexham earlier this month and has already generated a great response from those getting involved in the area. However organisers hope that many more across the area will take part and put together a small rucksack full of goodies to the cause.
The scheme is collecting for both boys and girls, aged between 1 and 15 so bags and toys are expected to be age specific depending on who they are created for. Their Facebook Page contains pictures of rucksacks which have already been completed, plus guides to where to purchase cheap kids rucksacks in town and what should be placed in them.
A small donation of £3 to contribute towards the cost of transport of the rucksacks is also requested, however is not required.
There are three drop off points currently organised in the Wrexham area, including the Eagle Education and Training Ltd, Unit B, Brymbo Enterprise Centre, Blast Road, Brymbo, LL11 5BT on Mondays – Friday between 9am and 5:30pm.
Rucksacks can also be dropped off at Wilkinson’s Eatery, Brymbo Enterprise Centre, Brymbo LL11 5BT on Monday – Saturday between 9am and 5pm and also EmzCakes Creative Cafe on Chester Street in Wrexham Town Centre.
The final drop off date for completed rucksacks is Sunday 29th November.
