A public meeting for patients to discuss concerns about the future provision at a health centre in Gwersyllt will take place this week.

The meeting, which will take place in Holy Trinity Church at 7pm on Friday, comes amid growing concern about the management and staffing provision at Pen Y Maes Surgery.

As Wrexham.com reported last year patients of the health centre, located on Beech Street in Summerhill, had received letters stating that ‘the GPs of Pen Y Maes Health Centre had given notices that they will be terminating their contract from the Health Board.

The Health Centre serves patients who live in Gwersyllt, Summerhill, New Broughton, Bradley, Moss Valley and even some parts of Brynteg.

In October 2016 Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board took over the running of the service.

However despite assurances last year that the health board were ‘working hard to rebuild the GP team’, there has been growing concern about the number of GPs / staff available and appointment booking. More recently the clinical lead at the surgery, who was appointed last October, has resigned from her position.

Patients at Borras Park and Forge Road in Southsea are also invited to attend the meeting, with both surgeries set to be managed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board this autumn.

The meeting will take place at 7pm on Friday 15th September at Holy Trinity Church, Gwersyllt, LL11 4HQ.

Hayley Williams, who has organised the meeting, said: “The church are allowing us to hold the meeting for free so as a gesture of thanks, may I please suggest that those able to or wanting to express their gratitude, bring some small change for the church collection plate.”
