Residents across the county borough will have the chance to have their say on making Wrexham a dementia friendly town at a public meeting next week.

The ‘Dementia Friendly Wrexham’ meeting, which has been organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, will run between 6pm and 8pm on Monday October 3.

During the meeting, Jo Lane from the Alzheimer’s Society will be talking about what makes a dementia friendly community and the criteria which Wrexham would need to meet.

She will be joined by Peter Harrison, the chair of Prestatyn Dementia Friendly Communities, and other speakers including Mr Lucas.

Wrexham MP Ian Lucas will be among those speaking at the meeting.

He said: “I’ve worked with the Alzheimer’s Society in Wrexham before, when staff in my office were given training in becoming Dementia Friends. There are easy ways in which we can all make a difference. There are many groups in town who are could get involved – based in churches, community groups, choirs, voluntary organisations and more – right across Wrexham.

“I would encourage all of those groups to come along, join in and have their say.”

Mr Lucas added: “Making places dementia friendly is important to me, and I have personal experience of the subject, as my mother had dementia.

“I will be speaking about my experience, what we can all do to help people affected, and how people can get involved on the night. I hope all those who want to see Wrexham become a dementia friendly town will come along.”
