Praise For Wrexham Centre Helping People Overcome Addiction
A Wrexham centre which helps support people with drug and alcohol addiction has been praised for the work it is carrying out in the area.
Champion’s House, which is located on Grove Park Road in Wrexham Town Centre offers a creative, active and supportive environment for people who have suffered from drug and alcohol addiction but are now actively seeking recovery.
The centre, which is run by the charity CAIS, was opened in November 2014 and funded by the Welsh Government.
Local Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths recently visited Champions’ House and toured the facilities at the recovery centre alongside Partnership and Business Development Manager, Stephen Campbell.
During her visit, Ms Griffiths met with several members of the Champions’ House recovery community, and joined in with photography classes.
Wrexham’s AM also met Lisa Clutton, who recently shared her inspirational story about how she turned her life around and is now working at the forefront of the drug and alcohol recovery movement.
As well as offering support to the members, there are a variety of activities taking place seven days a week including radio groups, filmmaking, art, gardening and IT sessions.
After her visit, Lesley Griffiths AM said: “Drug and alcohol addiction can have a devastating effect on people, their families and the wider community, but it is clear to see that the £500,000 invested by the Welsh Government is making a big difference in Wrexham.
“Champions’ House is clearly valued by the members. The support, activities and positive atmosphere created at the centre builds confidence and helps the members during their recovery.”
