A number of ‘redundant buildings’ on a former farm in Wrexham could be converted into residential properties if new plans are given the go ahead.

In an application submitted to Wrexham Council it has been proposed that a number of disused barns on Broad Oak Farm, Rossett, are converted into 13 residential dwellings.

The site, which is located on Llyndir Lane in Rossett is a former pig rearing farm which has been out of operation since 2001.

However if the application is approved, the barns will be converted into four two bedroom, six three bedroom and three four bedroom houses.

A total of 35 parking spaces will also be created on the site for the properties.

Details about the proposed development and the site’s history are provided in the application’s supporting documents, which state: “The aim of the proposal is to create a high quality, attractive residential development which makes best use of the existing buildings present on site, improving the condition of the landscape and character / openness of the countryside in this part of the Wrexham area.

“The farm has been vacant and although still registered, has not functioned as an agricultural holding for over 15 years. Whilst a previous planning application for residential conversion of the buildings was submitted in 2010, this application was withdrawn.

“The current application provides for a reduction in the number of units and does not include any work units / offices.

“It is important that positive action takes place to ensure the site is reused in a productive manner, to the benefit of the environment and wider community, before further deterioration occurs. It is considered that residential is the only viable alternative use to enable the redevelopment of the farm to take place.”

The application is expected be considered by Wrexham Council’s planning committee at a later date.
