A new system allowing those visiting Wrexham to pay for parking via their mobile phone will go live in the town centre today.

The new “Mobile Payment System” will operate in council owned car parks only and aims to make parking in the town quicker and easier.

It’s the latest change to car parking in Wrexham, with new parking machines installed at eight council operated car parks late last year. The new machines allow users to pay using Chip and Pin or via contactless.

In July a new pay “on foot system” was also introduced at ‘Tŷ Pawb’ (the market and arts development in the Peoples Market). As well as the new system, the changes will also see the introduction of ticket readers on the doors of the stairwells providing access to the car parks, which will improve security at the building.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The new machines were well-received by car park users when they were installed at the start of the year, and the new Chip and Pin and Contactless payment methods have certainly made life easier for those using the car parks.

“The JustPark Mobile Payment system will make things even easier and I’m happy to announce that the new system will go live from Tuesday.”
