Pass rate success for college’s first batch of engineering degree students

Coleg Cambria’s first batch of bachelor degree students have achieved great results with 100% pass rates in their Bachelor of Engineering degrees accredited by Swansea University.

The college say 65% of the learners gained a first class degree, with 93% gaining a first or 2:1 degree.

This follows on from the success of students studying the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PCGE) and Certificate in Education (Cert ED) at the college, who recently celebrated 100% pass rate.

Welcoming the results, Carys Davies, Assistant Principal at Coleg Cambria said: “We are delighted with our first set of bachelor degree results and would like to congratulate our students on their wonderful achievement.

“Our degree programmes link with employers and are developed in partnership with Wales’ top universities. Coleg Cambria’s multi-million pound investment into higher education has clearly benefitted learners, with the HE Engineering Centre at Deeside enabling learners to use the latest in simulation software and robotics in advanced manufacturing.”

In awarding and verifying the College’s results external university examiners particularly praised the level of feedback and support for learners, the industrial relevance of the programme and the development of project management skills which were rooted in actual projects in industry.

The engineering degree programme has originally been run for Airbus students but from this September is also being extended to widen the engineering disciplines and extended to full time students and employees of other engineering companies.

The College is offering new degrees in Applied Business Management and Engineering with Swansea University plus Childhood Studies, Education and Teacher Training with Aberystwyth University and will be working with partner universities to develop more degree level courses each year, bringing the best quality of vocationally relevant degrees from top universities for learners in North East Wales.
