A new project to help parents take steps back into training or work has been launched in Wrexham.

The NOVUS Project provides parents with guidance, advice and funding for training, transport or childcare.

The project is managed by Wrexham Family Information Service and funded by the European Social Fund. NOVUS aims to help many parents who do not have the confidence or the opportunity to learn new skills or return to work.

The project can also help parents who are already working but would like support with training to help improve their skills.

Lynda Jones, NOVUS Coordinator said: “Parents can face many difficulties when wanting to learn new skills or return to work. Some have no qualifications and have never worked and don’t have the confidence needed to take that first step. Some parents don’t have the support of a family network and can’t afford child care costs and others may have taken a career break to bring up children and feel the prospect of returning to work daunting, afraid they are no longer in touch with the ever changing work environment.

“There’s a lot of information and opportunities available but many parents don’t know about them. We can provide advice and guidance and sign post people to the right places. We can also help parents on low income with funding for training, transport, childcare costs or equipment that they might need to buy.”

Anyone wanting further information about the NOVUS Project can call into the Wrexham Family Information Service at Wrexham Library or ring (01978) 292094.
