New ‘Wrexham Ambassador’ scheme launched – “any business or individual can become an Ambassador”

A brand new, online Ambassador scheme has recently launched in Wrexham. This free scheme has launched with the aim of improving the visitor experience for people who work in tourism, work with visitors, live, work or study in the area.

The first 3 modules of the scheme are now live online, with at least 7 more to follow before the end of the year. The interactive online training modules, with quizzes, cover the topics of ‘This is Wrexham’, Outdoors and Activities and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site.

Each module will take around 30 minutes to complete, comprising of text, images and films. Completing these three modules will achieve bronze award status – with the completion of further modules once they are released allowing the user or business to achieve silver and gold status.

Each person will receive a certificate on completion of the bronze award, as well as there being online resources for people to download related documents, branding and links to relevant websites.

Speaking about the new scheme, Joe Bickerton, tourism manager at Wrexham County Borough Council said;

“We’re really excited to launch the Wrexham Ambassador Scheme at such a busy, important time for Wrexham. Wrexham is seeing a resurgence like never before, and this scheme will be vital to ensure that consistent messages are being communicated about the area. The online training modules will allow users to learn at their own speed, at a time which is convenient to them. We are hoping many businesses will incorporate the modules into their existing staff training programmes. We also envisage that the modules will be of interest to anyone passionate about the local area, anyone living, working, and studying in the area. The aim of the This is Wrexham Tourism Partnership is to have 1,000 Wrexham Ambassadors by next summer!”

Businesses will become an accredited business if at least 50% of their staff complete the modules, and the This is Wrexham tourism partnership are keen to stress that this doesn’t just apply to tourism businesses and individuals – any business or individual can complete the modules and become and Ambassador – whether it’s to give their staff a better sense of place, or simply to boost knowledge of the county in which we live.

“I would encourage as many people as possible to complete these first Wrexham Ambassador modules, and the subsequent modules which will follow. For those that provide a visitor welcome, those whose businesses operate within Wrexham County Borough, or simply anyone who lives here and is passionate about our area – these modules will help provide an informative visitor experience and broaden our knowledge. There is a global focus on Wrexham at the moment and it’s so important that all of us in Wrexham can shout about our proud history and what we have to offer.”
