Starbucks is set to open a new drive-thru coffee shop in Wrexham.

The coffee shop will occupy the unit which is currently being built on a “redundant” bit of car park near the entrance to the Asda car park on Holt Road / Bodhyfryd.

Plans for the development were approved by Wrexham’s planning committee in September 2020 despite concerns that it could “have a detrimental impact upon the economic viability and vibrancy of the town centre.”

However the plans were backed by councillors who acknowledged that the coronavirus pandemic and risk of mass job losses had in their view changed the landscape.

The development was described as “something worth welcoming” due to a need for “economic activity in Wrexham” in the wake of the pandemic.

Work has been underway for the site for some time and the company is now seeking consent to install 18 signs at the new drive thru coffee shop ahead of its opening.

If approved the signs would be in place until August 2026.

Starbucks, which has an outlet in Rhostyllen, has not had a town centre presence since the closure of its Eagles Meadow store in 2018.

A spokesperson for Starbucks said: “We look forward to bringing the Starbucks Experience to customers in Wrexham in the near future and will be in touch once we have more specific plans to share”.
