Plans to install new rapid electric vehicle charging points at a Wrexham pub and restaurant have been given the go ahead.

Last month Wrexham.com reported that Osprey Charging Network had submitted an application seeking permission for six new EV chargers and a substation at The Plas Coch, on Plas Coch Retail Park.

The company proposed that the vehicle charging points and associated electrical infrastructure were installed at the north of the pub car park, whilst a substation and electrical equipment are fixed on a grass verge towards the north east of the site.

David Fitzsimon, Wrexham Council’s chief officer for economy and planning, has now given the plans the go ahead via a delegated decision.

In making his decision, Mr Fitzsimon said: “Prior to the first use of any electricity substation installed in connection with the development hereby approved, an acoustic report assessing its impact upon amenity shall be submitted to, and approved in writing by, the Local Planning Authority.

“The report shall address the issue of noise (including low frequency noise) and vibration from the station to ensure that there is no loss of amenity to residential or commercial properties.

“The measures as are approved shall be fully implemented in strict accordance with the scheme prior to first use of the development and shall thereafter be retained as such.”

Osprey Charging Network has completed similar work at more than 290 sites across the UK. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

In their application the company states that the proposals are in-keeping with the climate emergency declared by Wrexham Council in 2019.

In its initial application, Osprey Charging Network said: “As stated in their Decarbonisation Plan (2021-2030), Wrexham County Borough Council is one of the leading Welsh local authorities to install Electric Vehicle Charging Points in publicly accessible car parks. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

“While this is a great start, there is an ever-growing need for the provision of more, high speed, charge points. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

“These would offer both residents and visitors a method of very quickly recharging their vehicles, rather than having to charge for a number of hours on a slower charger. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

“Our proposal will serve as a vital new piece of infrastructure for both locals and for visitors. Further, it will serve to increase footfall at the pub.

“The proposed development will have minimal visual impact to the local area, as the chargers and associated infrastructure are limited to 2.3 metres in height; and as it will be completely contained within the northern part of the site’s car park. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

“To minimise disruption to the site, both during construction, and once operational, the charge points and infrastructure have been grouped together at one end of the site, beside the delivery area.

“All of the bays have designed with improved accessibility (thanks to a protected, hatched area between the parking bays). ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

“It is Osprey’s aim to not only meet, but to exceed the requirements for accessible access.” ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌
