Staff and students at a Wrexham secondary school are delighted to have been given the opportunity to receive a fully funded defibrillator.

Mr Nic Harrison, Headteacher at Ysgol Rhosnesni High School, announced that this is very exciting news for the school, especially as the defibrillator has been presented to us by one of our ex students, Chief Executive of Hand on Heart, Victoria Burrows.

Staff and students will also receive training to use the defibrillator

A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, young or old, at any time and the use of a defibrillator within the first few minutes, while professional help is on the way, can improve the chances of survival by up to 70 per cent.

For every minute that passes without intervention the chances of survival decreases.

Having a defibrillator at the school will help to ensure that students and staff are better equipped and trained should anyone suffer a cardiac arrest whilst on the school premises.

Nic Harrison, Headteacher, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Hand on Heart and the West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce for their extremely generous donation. My staff and students will be trained in the use of the defibrillator and we are fully behind such an important scheme.”

Head Boy, Leon Thomas said: “It is such a pleasure to be part of a team of students who will be trained in something so important and which could save lives.”
