Nearly 2,000 people visited Tŷ Pawb on Easter Monday to take part in its first birthday celebrations.

It’s been little over a year since the revamped arts and markets facility opened in the former Peoples Market.

Dydd Llun 2, which took place on April 22nd, saw a day-long carnival style atmosphere featuring local choirs, bands, family activities and more.

Artist, Kevin Hunt, also unveiled his new artwork for Tŷ Pawb’s revolving billboards, ‘Wal Pawb’, at a special ceremony in the afternoon. His project, entitled ‘face-ade’ also includes a new fizzy drink made using ingredients grown on Tŷ Pawb’s rooftop community garden.

The daytime entertainment was followed by an evening concert featuring some top bands and performers including Baby Brave, Meilir, Omaloma, Double-Barelled and Break the Record.

Almost 2,000 people visited the facility throughout the day to watch the various performance and entertainment.

The number is down on the estimated 10,000 who came out on a rainy Easter Monday in 2018 to mark the opening of Tŷ Pawb – however the newly installed footfall counters at several of the buildings entrances do provide a more accurate figure of turnout for its first birthday event.

Lead Member for People – Communities, Partnerships Public Protection and Community Safety, Cllr Hugh Jones, said: “Dydd Llun 2 has capped off a wonderful first year for Tŷ Pawb.

“To have attracted such a large audience on a sunny Easter weekend when many people would usually have been heading outdoors is hugely impressive and shows just how popular Tŷ Pawb has become as a family friendly destination.

“The combination of arts, markets, food & drink, family friendly activities and diverse live entertainment has proved a huge hit with visitors and thanks must go to the huge efforts of the staff, traders, volunteers, artists and all those who have worked so hard to make Tŷ Pawb such a success story.

“We are looking forward to more exciting times in Tŷ Pawb’s second year, with some fantastic events and exhibitions planned, including the Football exhibition ‘Futbolka’ which launches on Friday.”
