Potholes across the County Borough has been an ongoing issue for some time, with the recent bad weather seemingly making the problem worse in some areas.

Last week complaints were made regarding potholes in the New Broughton area and the repair work undertaken on the High Street. Phil, who sent Wrexham.com the image featured above said: “Watching them was laughable to be honest, no clearing of debris, rock salt left underneath it, no bitumen the to seal it.”

Concerns were raised about the quality of the work and how long they would last with vehicles driving over them, echoed around town by some we spoke to who had seen the discussion. One unofficial ‘expert’ informed us temporary repairs are just that, and have a lifetime of days rather than months.

We queried the works in Pentre Broughton formally with Wrexham Council who said they were ’emergency repairs’ and will be fixed properly as soon as possible.

This morning comments were directed towards potholes on Chester Road, with Wrexham.com noting:
“Good to see open cast mining in the town, not sure the middle of the road outside the Four Dogs is an ideal place though!”

The tweet quickly generated a response on Twitter from other users, with Nick saying: “That pothole is so deep its even goes into the granite substrate. Must be over 4 inches deep.”

Andrew said: “What about the one half way down Chester Road near the traffic island. Poor tyres!”

Comments were also made about the hazards the pothole creates for fellow road users with Christian adding: “It’s not just possible tyre damage, these potholes are a death trap to cyclists and motorbike riders.”

One wry observation was made by Andy: “Saw some Chilean miners moving in there last week.”

Speaking about the issues with potholes on Chester Road, Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The potholes on Chester Road have been identified and have been the subject of temporary works.

“Fresh work on Chester Road will take place tomorrow. We have a number of town centre sites in need of resurfacing, and are making plans to do so in the new financial year.”
