A bike ride in memory of soldier Jamie Shadrake will take place next month.

Ben Russell and Shaun Husbands will be cycling from Lille Barracks to Wrexham to raise funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

Jamie Shadrake, who was Guardsman of the Reconnaissance Platoon, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was killed in Afghanistan last August.

Guardsman Shadrake, who was originally from West Bromwich had recently moved to Wrexham with his family. In 2009 when he was 17-years old he joined the Army, and upon completion of the Combat Infantryman’s Course at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick, he moved to Nijmegen Company, Grenadier Guards, in London. It was here where he conducted public duties at the Royal Palaces along with participating in state ceremonial tasks.

In April 2010 he moved to 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards in Aldershot, where he joined his elder brother in The Queen’s Company. So competent was his performance on a training exercise in Canada in the summer of 2011, that he was placed into the Battalion’s elite Reconnaissance Platoon. He later completed Mission Specific Training and was deployed with the Platoon to Afghanistan for his first operational tour.

The bike ride will begin at the drill square in Lille barracks on Jamie’s birthday on August 14. The ride will finish in Wrexham on August 17, which will be a year since his passing.

So far Ben Russell and Shaun Husbands have raised £355 out of their £1000 target.
