A new initiative aimed at future-proofing Wrexham’s workforce has been launched.

Last week saw the formal launch of Wrexham’s Employer Pledge – a scheme which aims to enhance opportunities for employers and employees and boost the economic development of the County Borough and its wider region.

Headed up by Wrexham County Borough Council, Employer Pledge Wrexham encourages businesses to make a commitment to develop skills and support young people and adults into work.

Armed Forces Veterans will be offered work placements, whilst anyone leaving recognised employability programmes will be guaranteed a job interview.

Businesses that give their commitment and sign up will be supported through a programme to ensure the County Borough’s workforce is fit for purpose in the future.

It also supports Wrexham Council’s vision as laid out in its’ Council Plan (2014-2017), to ensure that the people living in the County Borough are supported to fulfil their potential and to prosper, whist at the same time creating a vibrant, diverse and inclusive economy.

Councillor Mark Pritchard, Leader of Wrexham Council said: “I am delighted that we have been able to bring this exciting business collaboration to reality, particularly during an exciting period in the County Borough’s economy. We remain committed to maintaining and developing a strong, resilient and responsible economy to encourage new business that provides work for local people.

|By maximising the life chances of young people and adults through employability programmes, opening up opportunities for mentoring, work experience and apprenticeships, we believe we can nurture, encourage and release their untapped potential”.

Councillor Neil Rogers, Economy – Economic Development and Regeneration added: “We are entering an exciting period in Wrexham’s economic development with the opportunities currently being offered through the construction of HMP Berwyn including quality construction and apprenticeship opportunities, as well as the on-going benefits the prison will bring upon completion.

“We are seeing multi-million pound investment from existing companies which shows a growing confidence in Wrexham as a great place to do business.”

The scheme has been welcomed by global organisation ‘Flint Group’, a global organisation that can offer international career opportunities in a diverse range of disciplines, including marketing, engineering, finance, supply chain, research and product development, where employees can continue to excel and make a difference.

They are based on the Vauxhall Industrial Estate, Ruabon, Wrexham.

Rhian Tilston, HR Co-ordinator for the Flint Group said:” As a global print and packaging organisation employing over 7,900 staff worldwide, including a highly successful site based in Ruabon, Wrexham, Flint Group Ruabon is delighted to sign up to the Wrexham Employer Pledge.

“We are committed to nurturing fresh, new talent within our industry who will enhance our core values to provide our customers with high quality, innovative products whilst at the same time we ensure employee skills and ambitions are recognised and rewarded.”
