Hundreds of women descended upon Wrexham last night to take part in the ‘Ladies’ Midnight Walk’ last night for Nightingale House Hospice.

Despite the damp conditions, over 700 wonderful ladies turned up to put their best foot forward, between them pledging over £60k.

Following a 10km route around Wrexham, the walk started and finished at the Library Field in town.Walkers received either a bacon or vegetarian sandwich on their completion of the walk.  The Memory Wall, which was introduced last year, was again popular with many people bringing their dedicated stars on the evening to honour their lost loved ones.

The Mayor of Wrexham attended and, after joining in with the warm ups, did the countdown to the start of the walk. The Mayoress joined the ladies on the walk

Margaret Hollings, Fundraising and Events Manager, said: “This is an amazing amount of money and does not even take into account all the online fundraising that has been done for this event too. We were able to hand out waterproof ponchos to the ladies and happy to see the rain failed to dampen spirits with over 700 ladies coming out to walk for us.

“Thank you must be said, not only to these amazing ladies, but also to all the volunteers who have given up their time to help organise the event and make sure the ladies stay safe along the route. The money raised makes such a difference to our patients and the level of care we’re able to provide to them and their families.”

Caroline Siddall, Director of Income Generation, told the ladies at the start of the walk “we are so proud of you for what you do to help us. You are an amazing sight out in front of us as you begin this walk. We can’t thank you enough for your support.”
