Wrexham have made their first signing of what is likely to be a very busy summer in the transfer market.

The town have signed James Hurst, most recently with Dover Athletic, but initially a youngster with both West Brom and Portsmouth – the first to join after nine players were let go just under two weeks ago.

The 25-year-old can play on right hand side, either in defence or in midfield, playing 17 times for the Whites since joining them from Telford United in the recent January window.

James has also played in Iceland, along with stints at Crawley Town, Hednesford Town and Torquay United, plus a number of other loan spells.

Manager Dean Keates said, “Our first new signing in and a versatile player, which was one of the aspects about him that appealed,” said the boss.

“We are going with a with tight knit squad next season, so his ability to play well in several positions.

“He’s moved a round in his career, but he’s at a point where he wants to put down roots and he’s looking forward to the challenge here.

“He first flagged up when we were preparing for our game with Dover, we went to watch them at Macclesfield and I thought he was absolutely outstanding in the middle of the park for them.

“Obviously, we kept track of him after that and when I knew he was available, we were interested.

“He’s north-west based, so we had a chat with him this week, he came across well and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

James has signed for a year.
