International Competition Success For Wrexham Gymnast

A local gymnast has returned to college after securing fourth place at an international competition.

Katie Jones, 17, from Brymbo, was selected to compete for Welsh Gymnastics in Malta Gymstars Annual International.

Having started her gymnastics training at the age of seven, Katie secured fourth place in bars, bean, floor and vault in her first international championship.

In between her training at Deeside Gymnastic Club, Katie studies Sports at Coleg Cambria.

Speaking about the experience, Katie said: “It was amazing representing my country at an International competition, this was my first time competing abroad.

“I was really happy with my performance and to have the opportunity to try new skills that I had previously learnt. I really enjoyed the experience and hope to be competing for Welsh Gymnastics again in the near future.”

Adam Hall, Sports tutor at Coleg Cambria added: “I was thrilled for Katie when she was selected for Welsh Gymnastics. She is a model sports student and her hard work has paid off.

“It is great to see a Coleg Cambria learner represent Wales Internationally and do so well.”
