A young filmmaker from Wrexham has used the town as the location for his semi improvised comedy film.

19-year-old Rob Corcoran, who is currently a student at Liverpool university released his most recent film, ‘7 Days’ on YouTube.

The 36 minute semi-improvised comedy film focuses on one week of Rob’s life. Shot using himself, his family and friends, the film was shot entirely on location in Wrexham.

‘7 Days’ was uploaded onto YouTube at the start of last month and has already been viewed 685 times.

Work on the film started back in April, when Rob started writing the script before sitting his summer exams. However production of ‘7 Days’ did not start until June, with the film shot over the space of three weeks. The film was shot by close friend, Andrew Ball.

Rob said: “I tend to write down all the stupid things I think of in my phone or in a book.  It was all improvised. The script would include what had to happen in the scene, but there was no dialogue written down.

“A lot of the stuff in the film really happened to me. One scene in particular which involved an energy drink, is something that really happened.”

Rob initially started writing scripts after watching sitcoms while studying in Yale and prior to ‘7 Days’, both Rob and his friends completed a five-minute black and white film that was shown at the Cardiff short film festival.

‘7 Days’ was shot on location in various part of Wrexham, and showcases places such as Eagles Meadow, Erddig the High Street and Glyndwr University.

Rob said: “I’m a big fan of Wrexham. The  longer I’m back here over summer, the more I see it as a giant play area. There are so many iconic places here.”

All of Rob’s previous work has used his family and friends as the cast, which in particular works well for the improvised film. Although Rob himself has not acted before, he mentioned that his family and friends like being involved.

“I’ve not acted before, I like to play myself in these things.” said Rob, “The script allowed me to lose it a lot, but everyone had to act just as much, but it doesn’t feel like acting.”

Although currently a Physics student in university, Rob hopes to eventually make films as a career and has already started to look ahead for the next project.

Speaking about ‘7 Days’, Rob said: “As far as I am aware no-one has ever created a narrative film of this length and magnitude in the Wrexham area previously. I feel this could be a great opportunity to promote the area and the hard-working people in it through a creative project.”

The film itself is great fun to watch and has a very amusing ending, which did make us wonder why people weren’t Tweeting us asking what was going on. But to find out what happened, you’ll have to watch it yourself! The ‘7 Days’ film can be found on YouTube here.
