Homes Across Wrexham Begin to Receive New ‘Recycling Wheelie Boxes’
Distribution of new recycling ‘Wheelie Boxes’ to thousands of properties across Wrexham County Borough has begun.
Last week we reported that Wrexham Council were to introduce a new ‘Wheelie Box’ recycling scheme to 13,000 homes across the County Borough. We’re told that 1,000 boxes will be distributed to ‘suitable properties’ per recycling round – for example terraced houses and properties that don’t have steps.
It will take around three weeks to distribute the boxes to the 13,000 properties.
The Wheelie Box scheme is part of the Councils drive to increase recycling and help hit statutory targets recycling targets set by the Welsh Governments. It is hoped the Wheelie Boxes will simplify the recycling scheme and further enhance the recycling figures as we strive to reach the next statutory target of 64% set by Welsh Government
Distribution of the new Wheelie Boxes began at homes earlier this week, with Nicky tweeting Wrexham.com the above image of the ‘fancy dancy’ boxes on Monday.
Already there have been a number of queries about what residents are meant to do with their existing recycling boxes – with some asking if Wrexham Council will be ‘recycling them’.
A spokesperson for Wrexham Council told us that it would be ‘best to keep these in case (say Christmas) it is needed for extra recycling or if one of the black boxes is lost or damaged’. However if residents don’t want to hold on to them they can be recycled at one of Wrexham Council’s three Household Waste Recycling Centres.
