The much awaited Home Bargains store in Gwersyllt will open this weekend – creating up to 50 new jobs for the area.

The popular retailer announced back in February that they were to take over the former Tesco supermarket in Gwersyllt, which has remained vacant since April 2015.

However the long awaited store will be officially opened on Saturday 23rd April 2016.

The event will feature a special appearance from children’s favourite Stuart, from the hit Universal Pictures films Minions and Despicable Me.

Locally the news that Home Bargains will be moving into the Dodds Lane site has been welcomed – with renovation work taking place at the former supermarket over the past two months.

The company, which is one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, has invested almost £500,000 into the new Gwersyllt store – with up to 50 new jobs being created.

This will be the second Home Bargains store to open in Wrexham, joining over 400 outlets across the UK.

Speaking about the opening of the new store, Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our second store in Wrexham and look forward to welcoming new customers through the doors.”

The 17,600sq ft former Tesco store, which joins nearby retailers Barnardo’s and Iceland, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Joe added: “Dodds Lane will be a great location for us and we’re pleased to be a new addition to the local business community.

“We’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

Gwersyllt’s new Home Bargains store will open at 8:30am on Saturday 23rd April. More information about the opening event can be found on Facebook here.
