Play services at Wrexham County Borough Council have been commended for their hard work and offerings – with open access plat schemes described as ‘exemplary’ in an upcoming report.

In an upcoming Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) report, play services across the county have been praised for their services and the work they provide for local communities.

Some of the areas of the council’s play service that have been highlighted in CCSIW’s report include the “extremely strong and trusting” relationships children have formed with play workers; the “excellent community links” fostered by workers in their areas; the capabilities of the “very well qualified and experienced” team and their “outstanding” team spirit.

The service has been roundly commended by the CSSIW, which monitors care services throughout Wales.

Play workers were also lauded for providing additional support to families of children who may experience extra-ordinary barriers to accessing play provision through a high-quality inclusion project.

Speaking about the report, Cllr Ronnie Prince, Wrexham Council’s Lead Member for Youth Services and Anti-Poverty, said: “The CSSIW report is clear evidence of the incredibly hard work put in by our play workers, and they should be incredibly proud of the work they’ve done.

“They have built up excellent relationships with children, parents, schools and the wider network of play organisations, and their commitment to ensuring all children – regardless of the barriers they face – enjoy playing as much as possible.

“Wrexham Council is aware just how important play is to the development of children, and we are delighted with the findings of the inspectorate’s report.”

Parents, guardians and carers can also have their say on play opportunities in the borough. A full consultation on play is available online until the end of December.
