Tesco in Gwersyllt closed its doors to customers for the final time yesterday – resulting in the loss of 65 jobs.

The closure of the Dodds Lane store was announced in January, as part of the company’s decision to close a number of ‘unprofitable’ stores across the country.

Speaking in January, CEO Dave Lewis described the decision to close the store as ‘exceptionally difficult to take’

The store, which opened in 2011 was one of 43 stores across the country to close. Yesterday the store was trading as normal, however many of the shelves and fridges were bare.

A sign outside the Tesco store yesterday said: “We announced on the 8th January that we have taken the very difficult decision to close 43 stores across the UK. It is with great sadness we can can confirm this store is one of those to close.

“We are proud to have served our customers and the local community and would like to thank you for shopping with us. We will work closely with our colleagues to support them and continue to give you a great shopping experience. Our management team will be available to help you with any questions you may have in the meantime.

“Once again, we would like to thank you for shopping with us.”
