Glyndwr University Launches Online Television Channel

A television channel in the pipeline for almost three years was launched by Glyndŵr University students on Friday.

More than 50 guests attended the event held in the university’s Centre for the Creative Industires building for the unveiling of GTV.

Created by students for students and the local community, the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) channel was founded by Melanie Salisbury in 2010.

Led by Producer Catherine Devlin and Marketing Executive Adam Perryman, the Broadcasting and Journalism students,  paid tribute to Melanie and collaborators Communities 2.0 at the event and said they look forward to promoting the university, Wrexham and its businesses on the small screen and online.

Those in attendance were played a short video called ‘Wrexham Says Hello’ by Minimal Media, before Catherine told the audience: “We have been working on this as a final-year project and will be showing events inside and outside of the university in a bid to bridge the gap between Glyndŵr University and the community of Wrexham, bringing everyone together as one.

“GTV strives to be as interactive as possible, that’s why not only can you comment and share any of the videos available, but you can also make suggestions as to the type of video content you would like to see.”

Guests were able to access the website and view its content during the event, as well as talking directly to the GTV team about the service.

GTV received £450 from Glyndŵr University’s Students’ Guild to help with the start-up.

Adam, a third-year Media Communications student, added: “We don’t want to stop here. The future of GTV is vital and we plan to update diverse content and photographs constantly with the support of the (North Wales) Film and Photography Collective.

“This is an opportunity for students and the Wrexham community to work together as one. Your input is very much encouraged.”
