Garden waste collections in Wrexham will take place on a fortnightly basis again from March.

Since December green bins have been emptied once a month as part of changes introduced two years ago by Wrexham Council due to a drop in demand over the winter.

The return to fortnightly collection only applies to those who have paid to have their garden waste collected.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We have been making garden waste collections on a reduced, monthly basis across December, January and February to free up staff to help us deal with problematic issues caused by the winter, such as gritting routes or general maintenance.

“As we move towards springtime – and hopefully towards some better weather – residents are more likely to be making use of their green bin(s), so these collections will revert back to being fortnightly from March onwards.”

Those who haven’t signed up to the garden waste collection service previously, but would now like Wrexham Council to collect their green bin(s) over spring and into summer, can still subscribe to the service.

It costs £25 per bin, with the current service running until August 31, 2021.

You can sign up by visiting www.wrexham.gov.uk/gardenwaste. Alternatively, you can call 01978 298989 although you may experience a wait if you do so.

Residents are also being encouraged to keep up to date on collection days by signing up to the council’s bin reminder alerts. You’ll get an email alert the day before they’re due to be collected to remind you.
