Further calls for Wrexham Council to reconsider the controversial decision to demolish a former school have been made – with a ‘notice’ set to go before councillors tomorrow.

During last month’s Full Council meeting there were attempts made by several councillors to debate the Executive Board’s decision to demolish the former Groves school. However despite a number of attempts to discuss the subject, the meeting was told that as the item was not listed on the agenda, it would not be up for discussion.

Following on from that a ‘Notice of Motion’ has been submitted ahead of tomorrow’s meeting, with signatures from Plaid Cymru and Labour councillors.

The notice reads: “Given the significant level of public concern and the number of objections that have been raised following the Executive Board’s decision, of the 12th January 2016, to demolish the Former Grove Park County School for Girl’s building, we the undersigned submit the following Notice of Motion for inclusion on the agenda of the Meeting of Council, 23rd March.”

In January Wrexham.com reported that demolition of the former school could begin as early as April, with the process expected to be completed by August 2016.

If councillors support the notice during tomorrow’s Full Council, it will be referred back to the Executive Board where the decision will once again be considered.
