Funds Needed For Wrexham Community First Response Team

A newly established Community First Response team in Wrexham are looking to raise vital funds for necessary equipment.

The Wrexham Rural Community Response Team are a group are a non-profit, unpaid volunteers who work under the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust.

The CFRs (Community First Response) are based in Bwylchgwyn and Plas Maelor and cover incidents within a seven mile radius.

Now the group are looking for funds to help put a minimum of two teams (two kits) on the ground.

Each kit costs approximately £1,300 this includes the kit bag its self, automated external defibrillator (AED), a set of oropharyngeal airways (OPAs), hand-held suction unit, oxygen cylinder, Bag and Mask, oxygen masks and many more items to help save a life.

Within the next 12 months the group are aiming to have three full teams available to respond to emergencies.

First responder team manager and trainer, Claire Hurford, said: “Every second counts when you are trying to save someone’s life, and Community First Responder schemes are hugely beneficial in helping the ambulance service provide the best possible pre‐hospital care for patients.”

When a patient faces a serious emergency, every second counts and a helping hand from a Community First Responder can make a vital difference to their lives. CFRs are able to reach the scene of most 999 emergency calls within 4 minutes of receiving the call from Ambulance control.

In February alone CFRs in Wrexham and Flintshire attended 90 emergency calls. A breakdown of the calls can be found listed below:

Ruabon – 13
Mold – 43
Flint – 6
Hope – 1
Holywell – 8
Kinnerton – 19
