Wrexham residents are invited to take part a celebration of the architecture and heritage of Wales in this year’s Open Doors Days which is part of European Heritage Days. The events offer free access to a variety of buildings, heritage sites, and events of all kinds during September.

Where sites normally charge, these are waived. Sites normally open for free offer something special in addition such as behind the scenes tours and exhibitions.

Events will take place in and around Wrexham starting on 5 September with an opportunity to find out about the history and heritage of Bangor on Dee Races which has been hosting racing for 153 years. Guided tours will be available between 10 am and 1 pm.

Throughout the rest of the month historic venues such as Iscoyd Park House and Gardens, a privately owned 18th century redbrick classical Grace 11 listed house, Bersham Colliery, The Stiwt, Erlas Victorian Walled Gardens, Chirk Castle, Brynkinalt Hall, Caer Alyn Home and Minera Lead Mines will be hosting events and tours.

Two talks will also take place during the Celebration the first on 18 September entitled “The Repair and Renovation of Historic Buildings” will take place at Church House, in Gresford, and will be an opportunity to hear about the recent repair and renovation that have taken place at the Grade II listed building.

The second on 20 September is the annual public lecture which will be given by Gareth williams, former Senior lecturer in History at Glyndwr University, which will look at “Wrexham’s new treasure houses: Education in Wrexham in the Nineteenth Century.”
