A science discovery centre is holding a community fun day at Wrexham’s university.

Techniquest Glyndwr will be hosting the event, as part of their ‘Let’s Go on an Engineering Adventure’ project, on Saturday July 23rd at Wrexham Glyndwr University.

The jam-packed day will involve several engineering-themed activities, giant garden games, competitions and attractions such as a bouncy castle.

Along with the various activities, Techniquest Glyndwr will be inviting engineers from all over North Wales/North West England to come along and talk to people about their roles, in the hope of inciting interest into becoming a future engineer.

Speaking about the event project administrator, Hannah Marubbi, said: “We are really excited to be hosting this community event at Techniquest Glyndwr.

“As well as our Superheroes show, visitors will be able to attend the interactive ‘Atoms to Astrophysics’ show, take part in lots of extra fun games and activities, and have the chance to meet some engineers, all of which will hopefully give them a great insight in to the world of engineering, as well as a fun-filled day out.”

This is one of four community fun days happening at Techniquest Glyndwr over the next year, with the next one occurring on September 10th – the same day Wrexham Glyndwr University is holding their free open day.

The community project will also involve taking engineering activities out to other community events across North Wales in order to promote the work of engineers and generate interest in the wide range of engineering careers available.

The engineering adventure project is funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Ingenious scheme, which selects and funds the most creative impactful projects that engage the public with engineers and engineering.

Education manager of Techniquest Glyndwr, Scot Owen, said: “Through working in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering and local organisations and engineers we have been able to put on these fantastic events; providing lots of fun activities for the public to engage with engineering.

“I hope that this event and others in the region will really give a boost to the local community and inspire some of the stars of the future.”

The ‘Let’s Go on an Engineering Adventure’ event will take place between 11am and 4:30pm on Saturday 23rd July. Admission to the event is £5.

If you or someone you know is an engineer who would be interested in attending these events and gaining experience of public engagement, please contact Dawn Pavey, projects coordinator by emailing [email protected] or call 01978 293400.
