Christmas came early for the North Wales Police Retired Police Dogs Benevolent Fund thanks to a north Wales pet company.

The Farm and Pet Place, which has stores across North Wales, recently donated gift bags to the Fund, which included healthy treats and toys.

The Force’s Retired Dogs Benevolent Fund was established earlier this year by PC Jackie Edwards of the North Wales Police Dog Section.

The aim of the fund is to assist with the day to day costs of looking after the animals as they clock ‘off duty’ to retire. This includes the cost of veterinary expenses.

A special calendar, featuring some of the current police dogs as well as the retired dogs, has recently been produced and sold at the Farm and Pet Place stores.

The calendar is the first one ever to be produced by North Wales Police, and has proven to be a huge success with almost 500 copies being sold.

PC Jackie Edwards said: “We are extremely grateful to the Farm and Pet Place for their generosity in donating the wonderful and thoughtful goody bags. The bags will be very well received – especially when the dogs see that some of their favourite treats have been included.

“The support we’ve also had to help sell the calendar, wristbands and trolley coins has been overwhelming. We can’t thank them enough for all that they have done. We are very grateful.”

Sion Pritchard, Managing Director of Farm and Pet Place added: “We are so pleased to be supporting such a worthwhile charity. The calendars have proven to be a great success for the Paws Off Duty fund and we have received orders from as far as London!

“We look forward to working with the North Wales Police Retired Police Dogs Benevolent Fund again in 2016.”
