Nearly 1000 town centre car parking spaces have seen their prices rise by 25% today.

The Vinci car park under Eagles Meadow have ramped their prices up by 25% from this morning, meaning a stay up to two hours now costs £3.10 .

We spoke with Kevin Critchley, the manager of the Eagles Meadow development, who told us that he was only made aware of the changes on Friday and turned up today and saw the new signage in place.

Further detail was given that the decision is down to Vinci Carparks, who lease the car park, rather than Eagles Meadow itself.

Time Old Price New Price
0–2hrs £2.50 £3.10
2–3hrs £3.50 £4.40
3–4hrs £4.50 £5.60
Over4hrs £7.00 £8.70
6pm-2.30am £2.00 £2.50

One person we bumped into when the above picture was taken today said: “It is just at beginning of school holidays, are they trying to kill the town? The Council will be happy makes their parking look cheap!”

There are a few retailers in Eagles Meadow, such as Frankie and Benny’s that offer to reimburse your parking if you shop there, so in theory their offer has now become even more generous.

We are unsure if it was just due to the holidays starting or the good weather, but the charges increase did not seem to affect the footfall in Eagles Meadow today which appeared relatively busy.

In 2012 it was reported that around 3,000,000 people ‘visit’ Eagles Meadow, with ‘around half’ using the bridge that links Eagles Meadow to the town centre. Wrexham.com did try any get further detail on the figures and methodology at the time from the PR company Eagles Meadow uses.

The historical information gives a direct link to any parking charge change effects to town centre footfall, potentially to 1.5 million shoppers in Wrexham town centre.
