Driver assaulted on Coedpoeth slip road after being followed by ‘aggressive van driver’

Police are appealing for information after a driver was assaulted after being followed on the A483.

The incident took place near the Coedpoeth slip road at Junction 4 on Wednesday 21st February.

The 60 year old driver subject to the attack told us about the incident early on Wednesday evening: “I was driving home from work on the A483 southbound, I got ‘hassled’ by a small white van who insisted on driving too close despite the heavy traffic.”

“As I turned off at the A525 slip road to head to Coedpoeth the van again came behind me and repeatedly flashed its lights. Worrying there maybe something wrong with my car I stopped and got out to look at the rear of the car.”

At that point a person, believed to a passenger in the van, also got out and ‘screamed’ while approaching the driver: “The next moment they punched me hard in the left side of my face. I fell down where he proceeded to continue to attack me.”

The vehicles involved were a blue BMW 3 series, which was followed by a white Renault Kangoo van.

North Wales Police told us the incident took place at 6:27pm, adding: “The driver of a Renault Kangoo van was allegedly trying to undertake the victim’s car, flashing lights and driving aggressively.

“When the vehicles pulled over at the Coedpoeth slip road and the victim tried to complain about the manner of driving, a passenger got out of the Renault and assaulted the middle aged victim, hitting him several times across the head.”
