Drink driver disqualified less than a week after arrest

A woman who was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving has been disqualified for 32 months and ordered to undergo six months of alcohol treatment.

37-year-old Catherine Perkins of no fixed abode was arrested at 3:20pm on Monday 8th July after concerns had been raised about her driving.

An officer from the Roads Policing Unit located her on Garden Road, Rhosddu, Wrexham where she provided a positive breath test reading.

She was immediately arrested and taken to custody.

At the police station she provided a reading of 132 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

She was charged and remanded to appear before Mold Magistrates Court on Tuesday 9th July, where she was released on bail with conditions by the Court to appear again today where her case was heard.

PC Rich Priamo of the Roads Policing Unit said: “We are in the middle of our Summer Anti Drink and Drug Drive Campaign, and despite our repeated warnings, sadly, a minority are choosing to ignore our messages and risk not only their own life, but the lives of others by taking to the roads whilst under the influence.

“The roadside reading when she was initially stopped is the highest I have ever dealt with whilst on the Unit and thankfully she is now off the road.

“Choosing to drive when impaired by alcohol is dangerous and unacceptable. It is only by pure luck that nobody was injured by Perkins’ reckless behaviour.

“We are committed to making the roads safer and have a robust strategy around enforcing the ‘Fatal 5’ offences which includes drink and drug driving.

“Any amount of drink and drugs can impair your vision and dramatically reduce your reaction times. It only takes a second to lose control of your vehicle but the consequences can last a lifetime. Don’t risk it, stay safe and have none while driving on the road.”

Perkins was also ordered to carry out 200 hours’ of unpaid work, and to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £90 statutory surcharge.
