Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed a woman being assaulted as she walked her dog along Cefn Road in Wrexham this morning.

The woman, who is in her 60’s, required hospital treatment after being assaulted by a man as she walked along the path in the field on Cefn Road just before 7am.

The man, who was believed to be alone, appeared from behind and started talking to the woman as she walked. He then assaulted her by punching her to the face and head.

Detective Inspector Eleri Thomas of Easter CID said: “This was a nasty incident on an isolated path, but someone may have witnessed it or been in the area at the time.

“We would also appeal for anyone with any dash cam footage who was in the area of Cefn Road and Holt Road to contact us.”

The man is described as being white of thin build with dark hair. He was 5’7” tall and was wearing a light grey hoodie with black jeans.

The Welsh Ambulance Service told us: “We were called at approximately 6.50am this morning to reports of an incident off Cefn Road in Wrexham. We sent a crew in an emergency ambulance and a woman was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital with what are thought to be non-life-threatening injuries.”
